If the personalities happened to be showing their teeth while smiling/laughing, I learnt over time NOT to sketch their teeth… because by doing so, one shifts the attention of the viewer to the mouth region… and sadly no matter how beautifully one sketched the teeth, it always looked like they had a mouthful of cavities…

This was ten years ago. I was at a dinner party in a family friends place.  My friend showed me a sketch she did using a certain technique. I was really inspired… came home all charged… picked up a film magazine and made my first attempt in life do a portrait. By 4 am I was done and was quite satisfied. Firstly because it looked human… next because you could make out that she was a woman… and most importantly she was a beautiful woman… not bad for the first attempt… Now I had to work on making her look like Sridevi.
